What is an Apprenticeship and a Traineeship?
An apprenticeship/traineeship is a combined process of paid work and structured training. It is managed by a training contract which includes a training plan between an employer and an apprentice/trainee, in which the employer provides practical training and the apprentice/trainee studies and learns a skill/occupation/trade. Who is involved in an Apprenticeship or Traineeship?
1. Anyone wanting to gain a nationally recognised qualification. Some of the apprentice and traineeship outcome qualifications are the necessary requirements to gain a licence to operate in NSW. Is an Apprenticeship Traineeship Flexible?
Every apprenticeship and traineeship is competency-based, which places primary emphasis on what a person can do as a result of their training and experience. This means that the time it takes to complete a competency-based apprenticeship or traineeship is flexible. Where do I start?
Australian apprenticeships are managed in NSW by the Department of Education and Training and considerable information is available on this website as well as the recommended website links provided. What is an Australian Apprenticeship Centre?
Apprentices and trainees need to be registered (in the state of their employment) to receive the right training and the employer receives the right assistance, including incentives. Our federal government has appointed agencies known as Australian Apprenticeship Centres (AAC) to do this. The process is referred to as Australian Apprenticeships. What is a Training Contract?
All apprentices and trainees must have a formal training agreement that is binding to both the employer and the apprentice/trainee, and is signed by the employer, and the apprentice/trainee, and the parent or guardian if the apprentice/trainee is aged under 18. This document is known as a Training Contract (formerly known as an indenture) and developed with the assistance of the employer, apprentice/trainee and the RTO and submitted to the relevant state government by your chosen AAC. Can a Training Plan be Flexible?
An RTO should work in collaboration with an employer and the AAC to ensure that qualifications are packaged to meet the needs of the apprentice or trainee and the employer’s business. Information is available at www.ntis.gov.au as to the selection and arrangement of the units of competence that can be used for the selected qualification. What is Group Training?
The national network of over 180 Group Training Organisations around Australia now employs almost 40,000 apprentices and trainees – it’s the largest employer of apprentices and trainees in Australia. Well over 35,000 businesses use Group Training for their apprentices and trainees. |
