New South Wales Department of Education and Training

This is a State government department headed by a minister who has a responsibility for all State public schools, Vocational Education Training providers including TAFE and all private organisations, the respective training support services that includes the State Training Authority (STA) and the Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board (VETAB).

The Department oversees a number of functions, those in relation to training are:

  • Providing management of the funding available for RTO’s to deliver apprenticeships/traineeships through user choice funding arrangements;
  • Monitors the registration and quality of RTO’s through the Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board (VETAB); and
  • Offers and provides support to employers, apprentices and trainees in managing training contracts.
