Who is involved in an Apprenticeship or Traineeship?

  1. Anyone wanting to gain a nationally recognised qualification. Some of the apprentice and traineeship outcome qualifications are the necessary requirements to gain a licence to operate in NSW (see examples below);

  2. An employer who wants to gain the experience of a qualified employee;

  3. Indirectly the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET) who are also the Commonwealth Government's representative in the process;

  4. A Group Training Company (GTC) is an employer "agency"  for apprentices and trainees;

  5. Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) who will guide an employer through the process and is responsible for all registration and incentive documentation; To use the following link and you will be asked to insert your postcode and then you will have a list of your local AA Centres;

  6. An RTO as a training provider (TAFE is the public RTO and there are approx. 4000 private RTO’s in Australia. Not all RTOs can deliver all qualifications);

Outcome Example

Licensed Outcome:

Automotive (Light Vehicle - Mechanical) Certificate III – this qualification is the minimum requirement to apply for a licence to be employed and operate as an automotive mechanic in NSW.

Non–Licensed Outcome:

Automotive (Automotive Parts Interpreter Specialist) Certificate III – this qualification is equal to the one above but the requirement to apply for a licence is not necessary to commence employment in NSW.
